The expertise behind screw piles installation

To do the installation of the screw piles, it requires having a whole game plan of workbench. There are many steps to follow in order to reach the end of your project and above all, to be fully satisfied. Discover everything that happens behind the curtain when installing your screw piles.

Planning: the key to success

First, no matter the size of your project, it requires a lot of planning, through obtaining the plans of an architect or draftsman, going through the choice of building materials. This is the first step to any construction project, right after having the idea to make it a reality! Then, of course, it will be necessary to obtain the building permit as well as the engineering reports if necessary.

The choice and installation of screw piles: a sharp expertise

Then, come the moment when the Pro Post Foundations teams comes into play. Considering the type of structure to be supported as well as the type of soil on the construction site, it will be necessary to select the appropriate model of helical pile. To start with, it is relevant to know what a screw pile is: it is a long screw composed of a central shaft to which a propeller is welded. Since the helical pile is an engineering product, the central shaft and the diameter of the propeller vary depending on the type of project and the density of the soil.

Thus, there are several diameters of screw piles and sizes of fins variedes. Piles range in diameter from 1 7/8″  to several inches in diameter to accommodate residential projects, such as industrial or commercial projects. Fins of various sizes and thicknesses ranging from 8″ to 30″ in diameter can be used to ensure structural stability in compact soils, but also in soils with a lower density, such as clay. In addition, multi-finned piles may be required, resulting of a soil analysis by the engineering department or according to pile installation tests carried out directly on the construction site.

We then move on to the next step, which is to screw the pile into the ground using specialized and versatile equipment. The installer, who is certified by the manufacturer, makes sure to obtain sufficient tightening torque that confirms the bearing capacity of the pile in the ground. It can reach the tightening torque at different depths which can sometimes require extensions in order to go deeper into the ground. He must also ensure that the pile is installed below the level of the ground frost and reach the tightening torque required and requested by the engineering department.

Finally, when the pile is completely installed in the ground, a connector is added to the pile as well as an adjustable head to attach the beams of your structure. The construction of your structure can start the same day, no drying time is required, which is great news to meet your construction deadlines and goals. In addition, the installation of helical piers is very little damaging to your land.
