WHY SCREW PILES?

Every great build starts with what’s underneath.

Deck, shed, addition, house or cottage: your foundation needs to handle frost, shifting soil and your site conditions. If not, the whole build pays the price.

Made for your project

Our technical team picks the right piles for your build and your soil.

Built for Canadian winters

Installed below the frost line, screw piles don’t heave with freeze-thaw cycles.

No mess

No digging. Piles screw straight into the ground and your yard stays the way it was.

Build the same day

Piles go in within a day, so construction can start right away.

WHAT EXACTLY IS A SCREW PILE?

Here’s the short version.

A galvanized steel shaft screwed into the ground until it’s deep enough to be under the frost line and to carry your structure. That capacity is checked on site. No digging, no pouring concrete, no waiting for it to cure.

A foundation doesn’t have to be concrete. It just has to hold your structure up and keep it level, winter after winter.

Sonotubes or screw piles?

Here’s how they stack up.

OUR EQUIPMENT

Any yard, any challenge. We’ve got the equipment.

One compact tractor that puts every pile exactly where it belongs, with no digging (except in rare cases) and no damage to your property.

Compact tractor on turf tires with a 270° rotating drive head installing screw piles

Finished landscaping?

Turf tires and a 270° rotating drive head mean we can work around it without leaving a mark.

The tractor rolls over your lawn without rutting it, and the drive head swings to reach every support point without repositioning. Your flower beds, shrubs and landscaping look exactly the same when we leave.

Boom with a 9 to 14 ft reach and a 270° rotating drive head installing a screw pile perfectly straight

Sloped lot?

Our 9 to 14 ft reach arm and 270° rotating drive head keep every pile perfectly straight.

The tractor stays parked on level, stable ground while the tool adjusts to the slope. Straight piles carry the load properly, so your deck, shed or addition stays level for years.

Compact 48 in. wide tractor with a 9 to 14 ft boom reach installing screw piles in a tight space

Tight access?

At just 48 in. wide, with a 9 to 14 ft reach, our tractor gets where others can’t.

A narrow gap between houses, a cluttered backyard, a tight corner by the foundation: where heavy equipment won’t fit, we will. No fences to take down, no trees to cut.

Tractor with a built-in backhoe clearing an obstacle before installing a screw pile

Hit a rock?

Our tractor has a built-in backhoe, so we clear it and keep going.

We don’t normally dig. But if a big rock or stump is in the way of a pile, we dig at that one spot only. No second machine, no rescheduling: it all gets done the same day.

Installer standing beside a screw pile, operating the boom and drive head by remote control

Need dead-on accuracy?

Our arm and drive head run on a remote control, so the installer can stand right next to the pile.

Rotation, arm movement, torque: it’s all controlled remotely. Our pro sees exactly where the pile goes in, makes adjustments in real time and checks the torque on every single pile.

All-in-one compact tractor operated by an experienced screw pile installer

More than one challenge?

Everything is built into one tractor, run by our experienced installers.

Rotating drive head, long-reach arm, turf tires, backhoe, remote control and a compact frame: one machine shows up, ready for whatever your site needs. Fewer trips, no delays, and piles done right the first time.

OUR PRICING

What does a screw pile foundation cost?

From a small balcony to a full house, or even industrial equipment, screw piles work for almost any build, including sites where concrete would be difficult or expensive.

CCMC COMPLIANCE

Why CCMC compliance matters

Our piles are evaluated by the Canadian Construction Materials Centre (CCMC), the independent organization that confirms a product meets the National Building Code.

The evaluation looks at:
✓ An engineer-certified design
✓ Steel that meets a recognized standard (CSA G40.20/G40.21 or ASTM A500)
✓ Welding done to CSA W59
✓ An engineer-certified design
✓ Galvanizing that meets CSA G164
✓ Piles load-tested to ASTM D1143
✓ Installers trained and certified by Pro Post Foundations
✓ Load capacity, measured on site, pile by pile
✓ A complete installation report, which our engineering team can certify

It’s more than paperwork. Some cheap piles are made of thin imported steel, have no CCMC evaluation, aren’t built for our winters, and go in without any real load testing. The result: rusted steel underground, piles that shift with the frost, and a municipal inspector who can reject the project.

Pro Post Foundations piles are galvanized Canadian steel that meets CCMC standards, installed below the frost line, with hydraulic pressure monitored in real time. Before you sign anything, ask your supplier for their evaluation number. Ours is 13608-R.

FAQ

Still have questions? We’ve got answers.

How much does a pile costs?

It depends on how many piles you need, the weight they’ll carry and the type of your soil. In most cases, screw piles cost less than poured concrete or Sonotubes, since there’s no digging and no curing time. A free, no-obligation quote will give you an exact price.

Can screw piles replace Sonotubes?

Yes. They do the same job, holding up your structure, without the digging or the curing time, and with load capacity measured on site instead of estimated on paper. They can also be reused, unlike Sonotubes.

How long do screw piles last?

Galvanized screw piles are designed to last over 150 years, depending on soil conditions and the type of project.

Will the piles move with the frost?

No. Unlike surface foundations, Pro Post Foundations screw piles go in below the frost line, and their load capacity is measured by torque on every pile, right on site. They’re designed to anchor below the frost zone in any soil, whether it’s clay, rock or unstable ground. We guarantee our piles won’t move once installed. If they do, we’ll come back and fix it at our expense.

Can you install in rocky soil?

We install across Eastern Canada in every type of soil. Clay, sand, rock or fill: we assess your soil before every job and have methods for each. If conditions call for it, we adjust the pile type, the method or the equipment. Our technical team confirms everything when we assess your site.

Can you install in winter?

We install right up until the ground freezes, but not in the dead of winter. You can still use that time to get your assessment, quote and planning done, so your piles go in as soon as spring arrives.

Do I need a permit or a technical specification?

It depends on your municipality. Some require a technical report for this kind of project. If yours does, we can provide one and include it in your quote.

How long does installation take?

Most residential jobs are done in a few hours, the same day. Unlike poured concrete or Sonotubes, which need 24 to 48 hours to cure, you can usually start building as soon as the piles are in.
